Customised exercise classes for people living with long term health conditions
Exercise is a great way to manage your health and joining a class can be a great way to take part. Our classes are open to anyone living with a long term condition such as MS, arthritis, back pain, high blood pressure and many others.
At KICC Active Lothian we are committed to establishing suitable exercise classes throughout Lothian for people living with long term conditions.
A long term condition is a health condition which lasts about a year or more and impacts upon your life in some way, such as ME/CFS, Parkinson’s, diabetes, stroke, heart disease and osteoporosis. Many long term conditions do not have known cures, therefore people living with long term conditions want ways to self-manage their condition.
Self-management means understanding what is right for you and your condition, it does not mean having to manage alone without support.
We believe that you know your body better than anyone else and that you should be in control of your own life.
Our aim is to enable you to self-manage
your condition through regular active
participation in our classes.
Everyone knows that exercise is for good for you. Therefore you should have the opportunity to access appropriate exercise classes in your community that suit your needs. Exercise is an important part of self-management of long term conditions and plays an important role in successful maintenance of health and emotional well-being.
KICC Active Lothian offers holistic classes including yoga, pilates, circuits and hydrotherapy.
These classes are aimed at improving posture, easing muscle pain and building energy reserves.
Understanding and learning relaxation techniques can help improve sleep and generally improve overall feelings of well-being.
All our classes are led by qualified and experienced tutors who understand long term conditions. They are designed to be gentle and considerate of the needs of people with varying levels of mobility and experience. Attending these customised classes can help you to take control of your life and manage your condition more effectively.
